UCSB Arts & Lectures presents Star Trek icon William Shatner in the Santa Barbara premiere of his one-man Broadway show, Shatner’s World: We Just Live in It, on Fri., Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. at the Arlington Theatre, 1317 State St.

Join Emmy-winning TV and movie mega-star William Shatner for a thrilling voyage through his life and career, from Shakespearean stage actor to Star Trek icon Captain Kirk and beyond. Hailed for bringing “much-needed nerd fare” to Broadway (Financial Times), Shatner’s World touches down in Santa Barbara with revealing anecdotes, film clips, jokes – and even a song or two. A witty raconteur, Shatner has constantly reinvented himself in roles including high-powered attorney Denny Crane in The Practice, police sergeant T.J. Hooker and the clever, kung fu-fighting Priceline Negotiator.

Grand prize is a pair of one-day general admission passes to the Grand Slam Convention: The Star Trek & Sci-Fi Summit on Sat., Feb. 16 in Burbank. Winners will be announced after the show.
Audience members who purchase a $125 ticket will have an opportunity to meet William Shatner, have their photo taken with him and receive a limited-edition tour poster during a private post-show reception.
About William Shatner
William Shatner has cultivated a career spanning more than 50 years as an award-winning actor, director, producer, writer, recording artist and horseman. He is one of Hollywood’s most recognizable figures and a major philanthropist.
In 1966, Shatner originated the role of Captain James T. Kirk in the television series Star Trek. The series spawned a highly successful feature film franchise, and he returned as Captain Kirk in seven Star Trek movies – one of which he directed. The beloved actor played the title role in the hit television series T.J. Hooker before hosting TV’s first reality-based series, Rescue 911. He won Emmys and his first Golden Globe for his portrayal of eccentric lawyer Denny Crane on The Practice and Boston Legal and went on to play the curmudgeonly, no-holds-barred title character in $#*! My Dad Says. Shatner’s Raw Nerve, which recently aired on the Bio channel, is his own edgy and offbeat celebrity interview series.
His love of music inspired him to record the critically acclaimed album Has Been. The Milwaukee Ballet performed “Common People,” a dance presentation set to several tracks from the record; the event and its preparations are featured in the documentary Gonzo Ballet. Shatner followed up in
October 2011 with the space-inspired album, Seeking Major Tom, featuring heavy metal covers, as well as songs by U2, Frank Sinatra, Queen and Pink Floyd.
Shatner has also authored nearly 30 best-sellers in both fiction and non-fiction genres. His autobiography, Up Till Now, was a New York Times best-seller. Shatner’s newest book, Shatner Rules: Your Guide to Understanding the Shatnerverse and the World at Large, was released in October 2011. A comic book series, William Shatner Presents, debuted in summer 2009. The series is based on three novels of Shatner’s: TekWar, Man O’ War and Quest for Tomorrow, along with a separate title: Chimera.
Shatner has been successful in a totally different arena: horse breeding. A longtime dedicated breeder of American Quarter horses, he has had enormous success with the American Saddlebred, developing and riding world champions and has won numerous world championships in several equine events. His passions for horses and philanthropy were united when he started the Hollywood Charity Horse Show, an annual event that benefits Los Angeles-based children’s charities. He and his wife Elizabeth and three married children live in Los Angeles.
