January 23, 2014 Film Schedule "POPUP doc. Film. Festival - 2014"

The POPUP festival is bound by no country, state or city. We go where we are needed. This year we POP UP in Santa Barbara to highlight international and primarily local film makers. Our focus is on women's rights and the unlawful prosecution of local citizen and activist, Joshua Braun.

Film Details:

12.30-2.00  - "The Suspect"

Two African American social scientists pose as bank robbers in an effort to understand the racial dynamics of small-town law enforcement. However, their experiment takes an unplanned, deadly turn.

 2.30-3.45  - "No Burqas Behind Bars"

 No Burqas Behind Bars is a film about Takhar Prison. 40 women. 34 children. Four cells. No burqas. This is a feature-length cinematographic documentary that takes viewers inside one of the worlds most restricted environments. It is directed by Maryam Ebrahimi, Nima Sarvestani. 75 min.

 4.00-5.00  - "Let There Be Light"

 Let There Be Light is a film in Hebrew with English sub titles, that chronicles one Woman's break from reality. The film is directed and written by Israeli film maker Meni Phillip. 60 min. 

5.15-5.30 - "Sinner"

 Sinner is a short film that won the Venice Film Festival. It is 27 minutes and is about sexual abuse in a Yeshiva in Israel. This is directed and written as well by Meni Phillip. 27 min.

6.00-7.00 – "Blood Ganja"

Blood Ganja is a film against the prohibition of Cannabis in Santa Barbara and the prosecution of Joshua Braun - local resident. It is directed by Daniel Bollag, a local resident. 60 min.

7.15-8.45 –  "Femme"

9.00-9.30 – "Femme Q&A"

Femme is Sharon Stone's new film about women empowerment. It includes many powerful women such as Sharon, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Mariann Williamson, Gloria Steinem, Jean Shinoda Bolan, Maria Bello and others. The director is local resident Emmanuel Litier. 90 min.

9.45-10.45 – "A Womb With A View"

A Womb With A View is a documentary about 18 women who by choice or consequence do not have children, but give birth to great accomplishments for humanity. It is written and directed by local resident Jennifer Miller. 60 min.
