Country/Folk/Soft Rock fusion artist K.D. Lang returned to Santa Barbara to perform a mix of classic folk covers and sleek originals in her strong yet clean resonant voice. Her tone simply glides the music along like something from a warm childhood memory.
K.D's clean-cut appearance and feminine suit with a masculine manner was complimented by her barefoot style and charismatic smile. The pleasing demeanor of the whole show made me want to kick my feet up and sink back into my chair.
Seeing K.D. is definitely a great opportunity to please any date. The fresh, modern, country style featured a slide guitar that wasn't too twangy for us city folk, yet it added something important to her own sound.
Though I was unable to capture the artistry of the beautifully lit stage scenarios in my allotted three song photo shoot, I can say that it was a stunning treat that nicely complimented the whole show.
In K.D.'s own words, she offered us "a deep, dark, moist tone."
Solo pianist, Dustin O'Halloran, opened the show playing a composition that he wrote while living in Italy. There on an extended stay, his performance was the result of a "love affair with the piano". His style reminded me of George Winston in that a melody would begin with a stanza that was repeated over and over with subtle modifications and changes in emphasis, evolving the piece before it bridged to a new direction.
